TACLOBAN CITY –– A señior citizen, 72, has died on Saturday due to COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of fatalities in the region (Eastern Visayas) to 90.
The Department of Health - Eastern Visayas (DOH-EV) said that the new casualty came from Calbayog City, in the province of Samar.
DOH-EV announced on Tuesday night that Eastern Visayas has 8,737 COVID-19 cases with total recoveries at 8,133 (92.69%), and total deaths at 90 (1.02%); bringing the total active cases to 560 (6.38%).
The 47 new cases in the region were from Tacloban City with seven patients; Ormoc City (1); Leyte province (4); Samar province (25); Eastern Samar (9); and Northern Samar (1).
President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday placed Tacloban City in the list of areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) until Dec. 31 including Batangas, Iloilo City, Lanao del Sur, Iligan City, Davao City and Davao del Norte.
The rest of the Philippines will remain under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ), which is the least restrictive lockdown levels courtesy of the government. ITacloban
