TACLOBAN CITY -- A police officer was killed by suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) after an ambush incident in Brgy. Logero, Marabut, Samar on Thursday afternoon, December 10.
According to a report by Police Regional Office 8, the victim was identified as PCpl Lawrence Yrl Hembra.
Meanwhile, the detainee, Nestor Elardo, survived the incident and currently injured.
Police officers PCpl Jerome District and Pat Joseph Ricky Gacgacao were also in the patrol car when the incident happened.
Marabut Police Chief Lt. Fernando Calabria Jr. said the victims were heading back to the police station after a court appearance when they were ambushed by several gunmen in Logero village at about 12:56 p.m.
Other Marabut police responded and found PCpl Hembra injured inside the patrol car.
Hembra was immediately taken to Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center for treatment but was declared dead-on-arrival. iTacloban
