TACLOBAN CITY — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Wednesday, February 10, rescued sixteen stranded residents of Barangay Libertad, Palo, Leyte from waist-deep floods.
In a statement, PCG said that the initiative was in response to the call for the assistance of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) after receiving reports that various individuals of Brgy. Libertad needed immediate evacuation support.

PCG immediately deployed personnel and vehicles from Coast Guard Station Leyte, and Coast Guard station Tacloban to assist the stranded residents. The rescued individuals were then transported to Palo National High School (PNHS) that served as an evacuation center.
Classes and work in Palo remain suspended as the town was severely affected by the flooding due to the combined effects of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the tail-end of a frontal system. iTacloban
