TACLOBAN CITY — Started first as an initiative by a local group in Maginhawa Street, Quezon City, now several community pantries have sprung up in different localities including Tacloban City.
The first to start it in Tacloban is the religious nuns from the Saint Benedict OSB Congregation where they placed their pantry at the entrance of the Divine Word Hospital.

According to PIA-8, the group is composed of policemen, doctors, artists, and other concerned individuals. Tacloban Community Pantry plans to open more pantries in other barangays to help the needy.
In Calanipawan, another local organization has opened its own community pantry. The Tacloban Triskellion City Council place its pantry nearby a barangay hall where residents from the area applauded the said initiative.
