TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) – undertakes construction of better roads for CY 2021 as a road-widening project along Leyte-Samar (via Guintigui-an) is in progress.
The Php 14.5-million project will widen the two-lane road into four lanes with a physical target of 0.676 lane km. The construction is currently 35% completed since it started last February 17, 2020, and the target completion date will be in the first week of June 2021.
Road widening and road improvement projects are significant interventions in addressing traffic gridlock caused by the exponential increase in the number of vehicles traversing along national roads.
As DE Gonzalez said, “with the continuous implementation of road widening projects, we can strategically increase road capacity by adding more lanes for vehicles which will substantially ease traffic congestion and reduce the risk of traffic hazards.”
Road improvements do not only address traffic concerns but are considered as a crucial contribution to economic development and growth – providing access to employment, social, health, and education services are only some of its vital contributions. (DPWH-TCDEO)
