TACLOBAN CITY — In accordance with the Calendar of Activities established by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) pursuant to COMELEC Resolution 10695, the Voter's Registration period is scheduled to end on September 30, 2020.
With less than a week left until the voter registration period closes, registrants rush to the election offices to ensure that they are appropriately registered according to the deadlines.
Since the beginning of September, an average of 150 to 200 registrants has been served in a single day at the Tacloban City Comelec, compared to a regular maximum of 100 registrants per day since the commencement of the Voter's Registration period.
"I am calling those who are qualified to register or those who will turn 18 years old on the day of the elections on May 9, 2022, or those who will be 18 years old before May 9, 2022, to register so that you can participate in the democratic processes of choosing our national and local leaders." COMELEC-8 Assistant Regional Director, Atty. Felicisimo Embalsado said in a media release.
According to the latest available data, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in the Eastern Visayas received a total of 262,551 applications between January and September 18, 2021. A total of 118,820 applications for new registrants and those who have just reached the age of eighteen have been received and processed.
The Commission on Elections has extended the registration period to accommodate additional applicants, which is now open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturdays and holidays (from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
