TACLOBAN CITY — No public schools in Tacloban were selected for the pilot implementation of limited face-to-face classes nationwide, according to Tacloban City Division Schools Superintendent, Dr. Mariza S. Magan, who told CIO on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has selected 18 schools in Eastern Visayas to participate in the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes. However, schools in the highly urbanized city of Tacloban were not included in the list of 120 schools composed of 100 public and 20 private institutions.
"Despite our schools' and classrooms' readiness for limited face-to-face classes, we have to consider the situation in our area before we proceed to the next step. There will be no face-to-face classes in Tacloban yet," Magan expressed to CIO.
According to Magan, the Public Schools District Supervisors have agreed to conduct a study before deciding whether or not to conduct face-to-face classes in the city and whether or not the city's schools will be prepared for such an approach amidst pandemic.
Dr. Magan admits that the Department of Education (DepEd) Tacloban's reluctance to offer limited face-to-face classes even in low-risk areas is due to the reported cases of "variants of concern" in different areas of Eastern Visayas, including Tacloban City.
She assured the young learners of Tacloban that the DepEd Tacloban City Division will continue to provide unflinching assistance throughout their distance learning activities. —Tacloban News Update (Source: Tacloban - CIO)
