The COVID-19 pandemic shed light on the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health — also referred to as One Health.
As a result, the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) decided to focus the 2021 SEARCA Photo Contest on the theme "One Health is Wealth: Healthy Agriculture and Sustainable Food One Health is Wealth: Healthy Agriculture and Sustainable Food Systems."
The SEARCA Photo Contest, now in its fifteenth year, invites photographers from the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries to submit their best images illustrating One Health applications to agricultural and rural development (ARD), particularly those highlighting sustainable food systems during this pandemic.
Images depicting One Health may depict interactions between humans, animals, and their environment, which may include nature, farms, or other agricultural settings, during a pandemic. They could also be images of youth or farming families promoting One Health, or of healthy diets, improved nutrition, and food safety in agriculture as a result of One Health.
Additionally, entries may depict sustainable or environmentally harmonious food systems that exemplify One Health and protect animal health during a pandemic. Additionally, photographs demonstrating environmental stewardship and protection at the farm level during pandemic conditions are welcome.
The first, second, and third place winners will receive cash prizes of US $1,000, $800, and $500, respectively. The winners of the SEARCA Director's Choice Award and the Philippine Department of Education Secretary's Choice Award will each receive $500, while the People's Choice Award winner will receive $400 via Facebook voting.
To commemorate the SEARCA Photo Contest's 15th anniversary, two special awards will be presented for Best Youth Photographer, one for those who used a camera and another for those who used a mobile phone. Each participant will receive $300.
Both professional and amateur photographers are eligible to enter the contest. Participants may submit an unlimited number of photographs as long as they adhere to the photo contest's specifications.
All entries must be submitted online to SEARCA by 30 November 2021 at https://photocontest.searca.org.
