TACLOBAN CITY — Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the City Government under Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez has planned a simple yet solemn commemoration of this year's 8th Yolanda Anniversary on November 8, according to the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO).
To commemorate those who perished in the wrath of the super typhoon, the said observance will begin with a mass at the Anibong Shipwreck site on November 7 at 8:30 a.m., followed by a "wreath-laying" and candle lighting ceremony.
Apart from city government employees, officials, and private groups, the memorial service is open to residents of neighboring communities.
On November 8, 2021, the same activities will be held, including a holy mass at Holy Cross Memorial in Basper by Fr. Willy Vallar at approximately 8:30 a.m. The blessing of the mass grave and marker at the Astrodome is a highlight of the 8th-anniversary commemoration.
Additionally, on the same day, prior to sunset, the Simultaneous Ringing of Church Bells will occur as a precursor to the Candle lighting ceremony to remember and pay tribute to those who perished during the super typhoon.
The Tacloban City Government guarantees that the events will adhere to minimum public health protocols. —Tacloban News Update (Source: Tacloban-CIO)
