TACLOBAN CITY – Regional Director Allan S. Borromeo of the Department of Public Works and Highways 8 (DPWH-8) handed over to the Local Government Unit of Abuyog a P35 million evacuation center project in Barangay Bunga, Abuyog, Leyte, on January 14, 2022.
Assistant District Engineer Lyndel P. Jabines of the DPWH Leyte 5th District Engineering Office assisted Director Borromeo. Representative Carl Nicolas L. Cari, Abuyog Vice Mayor Octavio Traya Jr., municipal councilors, barangay captains, and kagawads, as well as former Baybay City Mayor Michael L. Cari, were also in attendance.
Mayor Traya expressed gratitude in his welcome address for being a recipient of the DPWH-completed evacuation center.
The evacuation center's mission is to provide a secure location for communities to seek refuge from potential dangers during disasters and calamities. Additionally, it will serve as a multipurpose center for a variety of activities.
“Because the 5th Congressional District of Leyte is always included in the route of typhoons, we wish to add more evacuation centers in each municipality,” Congressman Cari stated during his speech.
Director Borromeo also expressed his support for the Leyte 5th District's plans and project proposals, which he believes will benefit the majority of constituents. —Tacloban News Update (Source: GTT/DPWH - Leyte 5th DEO)
