In accordance with Department Order No. 42, Series of 2022 Declaring Various Roads in Region VIII into National Roads, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Leyte 4th District Engineering Office (DEO), led by District Engineer Allan D. Eway, conducted an ocular inspection of the newly converted national roads within Leyte's 4th District.
The issued Department Order is in accordance with Section 5 of Executive Order No. 124, dated 30 January 1987, which authorizes the DPWH to categorize roads and highways as national, provincial city, and barangay roads.
The roads included in the declaration are the Jaro-Rubas-Ormoc Road, the Burauen-Albuera Road, the Ormoc City Diversion Road (San Juan – Lao – Naungan Section), the Palompon Diversion Road, and the Ormoc Diversion Road.
Once maintenance funds are allocated/included in the Department's Annual Maintenance Work Program, the Leyte 4th DEO will take full responsibility for the efficient and timely maintenance of the said roads.
Converting these local roads/diversion roads to national roads can boost the local economy by allowing farm products to be transported more quickly to the local market and trading center, especially during the rainy season.
This will also help to improve the region's connectivity and mobility, allowing for better access to available social services in the city center, particularly in remote and rural areas. —Tacloban News Update (Source: DPWH/Leyte4thDEO)
