TACLOBAN CITY - Twenty-five (25) new units of modern public utility jeepneys (PUJs) were launched by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) - Eastern Visayas and Northern Barangay Transport Cooperative (NORBATCO) on Tuesday, April 5, at Rizal Park, Tacloban City.
NORTBATCO's additional modern PUJs are set to ply the Tacloban-Tagpuro route with fourteen (14) units, Tacloban-Kawayan route with seven (7) units, and Tacloban-Sta. Elena route with four units.
The 25 newly launched modernized units are in addition to the 10 NORBATCO modernized units that were launched on September 6, 2021.
LTFRB applauded NORBATCO because, although it may seem impossible, the transportation cooperative now has 35 modernized units traversing the Tacloban area.
During the grand launching, Regional Director Gualberto N. Gualberto awarded a provisional authority (PA) to NORBATCO's Chairperson, Mr. Florante M. Otida, and Vice-Chairman Mr. Leopoldo Culanag.
Meanwhile, Mr. Joey C. Picadizo, VP, of Sales Marketing, JMC Philippines, presented the key, which was followed by the cutting of the ribbon.
The new units are part of the PUV Modernization Program (PUVMP), the current administration's flagship non-infrastructure project aimed at providing a comfortable life for all Filipinos through the country's safe, reliable, convenient, affordable, and environmentally sustainable public transportation system. —Tacloban News Update (Source: LTFRB-8)
