TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Monday, April 18, that there will be no classes in public schools from May 2 to May 13 due to activities related to the national elections, which will take place on May 9.
According to the department, teachers and other DepEd personnel will be able to carry out their election-related duties as outlined in DepEd Order No. 29 since there will be no classes from kindergarten to grade twelve.
"This is consistent with DepEd Order No. 29, section 2021, which designated the specified days for teachers and DepEd personnel to participate in National Election-related activities," the department stated on Monday.
Teachers serve as a board of election inspectors during elections. As with previous elections, classrooms in public schools will serve as polling places this election season. —Tacloban News Update
