TACLOBAN CITY – On May 12, 2022, at the Kawayan Municipal Grounds, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Biliran awarded 282 fishermen, skilled and home-based workers with livelihood starter kits worth three million pesos.
Two hundred thirty-two fishermen received motorboat engines and fishing nets worth P2.3 million during the simple turnover ceremony officiated by Mayor Rodolfo J. Espina Sr., while 50 skilled and home-based workers received sewing machines worth P700,000.

Mayor Espina thanked DOLE for the grants and urged all recipients to use the equipment provided with caution.
The recipients were the second batch of livelihood grants funded by DOLE Regional Office No. 8 in 2021 through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) in collaboration with the Kawayan local government unit. The twenty barangays of the 5th class municipality were identified as beneficiaries.
