TACLOBAN CITY – Since its resumption under Service Contracting Program Phase 3, over one million commuters have benefited from the "Libreng Sakay" (free ride) program in Eastern Visayas (Region 8).
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 8 announced via Facebook that the program had logged 1,014,602 riders as of May 16, 2022.
[The Service Contracting Program's goal is to provide additional revenue to operators and drivers who have been severely impacted by the pandemic and the ongoing rise in crude oil and commodity prices. We also want to assist our Health Care Workers, APOR, and Essential Workers by providing free public transportation that is efficient, fast, and safe]," LTFRB-8 said.
The DOTr and LTFRB expressed their appreciation for the service provided by the operators and drivers under the Service Contracting Program. —Tacloban News Update
