TACLOBAN CITY – More than 285,000 commuters have benefited from the "Libreng Sakay" (free ride) program in Eastern Visayas (Region 8) since its resumption under Service Contracting Program Phase 3.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 8 posted on Facebook on May 4 that the program had logged 285,220 riders.
"Kaugnay nito, inaasahan naman ng ahensiya ang pagbubukas ng mga karagdagang ruta at PUV yunit sa mga susunod na araw na lalahok sa SCP Phase III para makapagbigay ng libreng serbisyong pampublikong transportasyon sa ating mga mananakay..
[In this regard, the agency anticipates the opening of additional routes and PUV units that will participate in SCP Phase III to provide free public transportation services to our passengers in the coming days]," LTFRB-8 said.
The Service Contracting Program aims to provide additional revenue to operators and drivers whose revenue have been severely impacted by the pandemic and continuing increase in crude oil and commodity costs. —Tacloban News Update
