President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has urged the new set of elected officials to serve the Filipino people zealously and prioritize public welfare above all else.
He also thanked the non-winning candidates and congratulated those who will be victorious in the 2022 elections in his Talk to the People speech, which aired Thursday morning.
"I am hopeful that you will serve the Filipino people with all your heart and ability and prioritize the welfare of the general public above everything," the President said.
He told the non-winning candidates that despite their lack of success, they should continue to serve the people in their capacity as leaders in their respective sectors and communities.
"You made the elections successful because you have made your will known by performing your sacred right and duty to vote," he said, congratulating the Filipino people.
President Duterte also praised the efforts of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), soldiers, police officers, poll workers, and volunteers in ensuring a peaceful election.
Simultaneously, he urged the Filipino people to continue supporting COMELEC and its civil society partners to properly announce the winners.
The President expressed hope that the Comelec would find time to investigate the reported election irregularities in order to ensure the ballot's sanctity. He also urged Filipinos to band together as his term comes to an end.
"By noon of June 30, I invite the public to join me in running behind our new elected leaders so we can continue the difficult but rewarding task of building a stronger and more progressive nation," he said. —Tacloban News Update (Source: PND)
