As he witnessed the lowering of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) of the country's first-ever Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) in Valenzuela City on June 12, 2022, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed his hope that the next administration will continue the large-scale infrastructure projects that his administration initiated to aid the nation's economic recovery.
During his speech at the event, President Duterte expressed his hope that the incoming Marcos administration will build on the foundations that his administration has laid regarding infrastructure projects.
"I now call on my fellow workers in government — especially those who will take over the reins of power and those who will remain once I leave office — to continue to dream and pursue big-ticket projects that will sustain our ongoing economic recovery and realize our people's goals and aspirations," the President said.
"Let us look forward to a more progressive and robust Philippines with courage, optimism, and confidence."
President Duterte congratulated the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and its partners on making significant progress on the MMSP and thanked the Japanese government for collaborating with the Philippines to make the project a reality.
"I am also grateful to have the Japan International Cooperation Agency as an ally in nation-building, especially in initiatives that will benefit our citizens and accelerate our country's economic development," he added.
According to President Duterte, the project will genuinely benefit commuters, particularly those traveling from Quezon City to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), by providing them with the convenience and comfort of a fast, efficient, and modern transportation system.
At the same time, it will allow travelers to save a significant amount of time and energy, allowing them to become more productive and focused on other endeavors.
The Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is one of the monumental projects under the Duterte administration's Build, Build, Build Program.
The subway project's Phase 1 is currently under construction and will include 13 underground stations connecting Valenzuela, Quezon, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, and Parañaque in the National Capital Region (NCR).
It will be extended north and south of Metro Manila. —iTacloban (Source: PND)
