The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Biliran (PENRO Biliran) has released a rescued civet cat, locally known as garong, to its natural habitat in Almeria, Biliran's heavily forested area.

PENRO Biliran was able to save the animals after a concerned citizen informed them about a captive civet cat that was being displayed at a local restaurant in Naval, Biliran.

After receiving the report, the forest enforcers from PENRO Biliran responded quickly and rescued the juvenile civet cat. It was temporarily housed at their rescue center for evaluation.

The civet cat was transported to a forested area before being released back into its natural habitat after being deemed fit for release.

It should be noted that the civet cat is a rare species that can only be found in tropical regions.

Civet cat seeds are highly sought after and are considered the world's most expensive coffee.

The DENR reminds the public that, except in certain circumstances, R.A. 9147 makes it illegal to kill and destroy wildlife species. —iTacloban (Source: DENR-EV)
