TACLOBAN CITY – Traffic Surveyors briefly stop inbound vehicles for weight inspection as the DPWH Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) performs the Annual Axle Load Survey at Brgy. Diit, which began on October 4, 2022, and will continue until October 14, 2022.

The said activity was supervised by the Assitant District Engineer, Rebecca G. Yuse, together with the Chief of the Planning and Design Section, Engr. Margarita C. Bacierra and other Engineers of Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) and DPWH Regional Office VIII.

Moreover, the said activity was in accordance with the Regional Office Memorandum dated September 29, 2022, mandating the TCDEO to conduct the Annual Axle Load Survey along Daang Maharlika Road, Brgy. 99, Diit, Tacloban City, in three (3) daily shifts.

As trucks are one of the largest commercial carriers operating on national highways and other roadways, truck loads have a significant influence on the condition of roads, making the Annual Axle Load Surveys an essential data collection method for Engineers to build a more robust road network, assist them in improving the performance of regular and periodic maintenance, and enhance its database of axle weights.

Large trucks are weighed on a weighbridge installed on a national highway, and the resulting data is recorded to gather data that will be used to determine the right design criteria for the road.

In addition, Republic Act 8794 prohibits trucks from using national highways and bridges if their axle load exceeds the capacity limit of 13,500 kilograms per axle and the permissible Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). (DPWH-TCDEO)
