With the Spark San Juanico Aesthetic Light and Sound project, the link between Samar and Leyte ignites a larger spark of strengthened tourism and commerce ties 49 years after the bridge's inauguration.
The completion of the P80 million Spark San Juanico project adds to its picturesque glory by making it the country's first of its kind.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the ceremonial lighting of the bridge on Wednesday, October 19. Joining him are Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark T. Lapid, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, Samar 2nd District Representative Reynolds Michael Tan, Samar 1st District Representative Stephen James "Jimboy" Tan, the proponent herself Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan, key officials from the Province of Samar, and representatives from national government agencies.
Governor Sharee Ann Tan alludes to the aesthetic light and sound project as a beacon of hope for all of Samar in her message, highlighting the Spark Samar Development Agenda's main asset - tourism.
Following the economic devastation caused by Supertyphoon Yolanda and the subsequent rise of neighboring provinces, Governor Tan declared, "IT'S TIME FOR SAMAR! An Samar, naman!"
President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr, in his message, underscored that the San Juanico Bridge was primarily built for Samar.
"To respond to your cry na, 'Samar naman,' I would like to say, dati pa naman, Samar na," the President emphasized.
President Marcos also urged local governments to pursue projects that aim for long-term success and progress.
"It is my earnest desire that this event will encourage the local governments of Samar and Leyte, its people, as well as every Filipino, to pursue programs that will not only result in significant enhancements to our infrastructure but will also pave the way for long-lasting impacts in the lives of our fellow Filipinos," President Marcos said.
The Spark San Juanico Aesthetic Light and Sound project is expected to boost Samar tourism and the local economy, resulting in community transformation and economic prosperity for the entire state of Samar. (SAMAR-PIO)
