Through interactive exhibits and hands-on breakout sessions, DOST's Handa Pilipinas Expo 2022 will show off the newest and most innovative technologies, products, and research and development (R&D) projects to reduce the risk of disasters and respond to them.
In recent months, parts of the country have been devastated by Typhoon Paeng's onslaught in Visayas and Mindanao and several earthquake incidents in the Ilocos Region.
As the consequences of natural disasters, such as casualties and property losses, become more visible, government agencies, local government units, and vulnerable communities must prioritize disaster management and mitigation.
In response, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), along with the DOST-Technology Application and Promotion Institute and DOST-National Capital Region, is putting on Handa Pilipinas: Innovations in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Expo 2022. It will take place from November 9 to 11 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
DOST and its partner organizations want to use this event to make more people aware of technologies that can be used to improve the abilities of local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management offices to prevent, prepare for, and respond to disasters.
Some of the DOST technologies shown are the Tsunami Alerting System and Disaster Early Warning, the Automated Weather Station, GeoSafer, Damaged Building Detection, and COIN for Innovations in Early Warning System Cluster (Cartography of the Old Informs the New).
Under the Food Security Cluster, new ideas include Irradiated Chicken Adobo, Micronutrient Growth Mix, Rice-Mongo Curls, and Crunchies, Pack of Hope Ready-to-Eat Emergency Relief Foods, Brown Rice Bar, Canton Noodles with Squash, and Ready-to-Drink Mungbean and Coconut Cream.
Also included are technologies that have to do with the infrastructure that people have built. These are the Ceramic Water Filter, Do-It-Yourself Bamboo Shelter, Shop Fabricated House or F-Shelter, REwear, Structural Joining Systems or Connecting Bamboo Poles, and Cocopatch.

The Handa Pilipinas Expo was also planned for March 12-14, 2020, at the World Trade Center. However, due to the ongoing increase in COVID-19 cases at the time, as well as the beginning of the implementation of various restrictions and health protocols, the DOST decided to postpone the event until now.
The Handa Pilipinas Expo 2022 is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on November 9-11, 2022.
