The Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (SLDEO) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) surpassed its financial management target for October, placing fourth out of 192 district engineering offices nationwide.
Manolo Rojas, DPWH Southern Leyte District Engineer, said that their office aimed for a 96% absorptive capacity achievement in October. He went on to say that meeting their target is already a difficult task, which is why they are overjoyed to have achieved a 99.17% actual absorptive capacity, which places them among the top-performing engineering offices in the country in this regard.
"This just shows that we have efficient management of our financial resources in the office and that our concerted efforts to deliver our services and projects to the public have paid off," Rojas added.
Assistant District Engineer Gideon Sacro stated that the district's high absorptive capacity is due to a faster bidding process, close monitoring of pre-detailed engineering works, and the immediate obligation of the district office's project allocations. This, according to Sacro, will speed up the DPWH's procurement process, resulting in immediate project commitment.
Rojas concluded that for the month of November, the office will attempt to surpass its absorptive capacity goal of 98% and aim for a higher national ranking.
The financial management service depends on the district's ability to absorb allotment obligations, disbursement rates, and cash allocation notices.
The office is currently implementing a total of 189 projects with a total allocation of P8.2 billion, of which 148 are under the regular infrastructure program, and 41 are under the Quick Response Fund.
