TACLOBAN CITY – Greendale Residences Integrated School (GRIS) in Tacloban City, which is located in a "pabahay" relocation site, held a symposium on cyberbullying, ASEAN Digitalino, child-related criminal laws, and values education.
The presentations, which were attended by over 180 GRIS students and teachers, began with opening remarks from GRIS School Principal Sir Arnold Vicentillo. Ma'am Carlie Balasanos, the guidance designate, introduced speakers from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and Faithway Baptist Church.
Claire Fernandez, DICT Region 8 Cybersecurity focal, spoke about cyberbullying and the ASEAN Digital Literacy Program.
PNP PMaj Edwin Caamaque discussed child-related criminal laws, while other police officers shared information about Republic Act (RA) 7610: Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, RA 9262: Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, RA No. 11313 or The Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law), and RA 10627: Anti-Bullying Act.
According to a poll of public school teachers, Rev. William T. Balasanos of Faithway Baptist Church discussed the problems at school.
DICT Region 8 Regional Director Felix S. Tabanao, Jr. thanked GRIS for including DICT in its recent symposium.
This activity contributes to the fulfillment of DICT's Cybersecurity function by coordinating the support participation of the business sector, local government units, and nongovernmental organizations in cybercrime prevention programs and other related projects. —iTacloban (Source: DICT-8)
