TACLOBAN CITY –The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Eastern Visayas (LTFRB-8) launched three modern public utility jeepneys (PUJ) in Can-avid, Eastern Samar, on Friday, October 28, 2022. They will ply routes in Eastern Samar as part of the government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).
The launching was held at Can-avid GPark and was attended by representatives of LTFRB-8, Dolores Can-avid Taft Transporation Cooperation (DCTTC), and the local government unit.
According to the LTFRB-8, one MPUJ unit will ply the routes of Borongan City-Oras (vice versa), and two MPUJ units will ply the routes of Borongan City-Dolores (vice versa) in the Province of Eastern Samar.
Can-avid Mayor Vilma Germino congratulated DCTTC members and expressed her support for the continued modernization of PUVs.
According to the LTFRB's official website, the PUVMP is a comprehensive system reform that will completely transform the public land transportation industry. It includes regulatory reform and new franchise guidelines for road-based public transportation services.
In addition, the PUVMP envisions a restructured, modern, well-managed, and environmentally sustainable transportation sector in which public transportation drivers and operators have stable, sufficient, and dignified livelihoods and commuters arrive on time, safely, and comfortably. —iTacloban
