The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Northern Samar First District Engineering Office (NSFDEO) participated in the ceremonial opening of Karibhungan sa Pasko- Christmas lights and carnival display at the Provincial Capitol, Catarman, Northern Samar on November 4, 2022.
Thousands of Nortehanons flocked to the grounds of the Provincial Capitol to see the lighting of a massive Christmas tree and the colorful booths displayed by participating agencies.
This year, the district office demonstrated its mechanical and electrical savvy by erecting one of the world's most famous amusement rides, the Ferris wheel. There are also food stalls where you can get free sweet treats like cotton candy, popcorn, and ice cream. To add to the carnival theme, the district set up ticket booths and a full entertainment live band comprised of talented NS1 personnel, followed by the district's first-ever fireworks display.
Clowns and mascots (Baby JJ of Cocomelon and Elsa of Frozen) set the tone for fun and excitement in the audience. Children were enthralled when the two famous characters appeared to entertain them. The two lovely lady Santas were also featured in a non-stop photo shoot.
After being cooped up in our houses for the past few years due to the pandemic, DPWH NSFDEO District Engineer Mario D. Villena said it is good to see everyone enjoying the colorful and exciting Christmas Carnival.
“Everyone is enjoying the Christmas Carnival display, we hope that our office shared so much happiness and bring smiles to every Nortehanons by this simple display our office has provided. After two years of hiatus, we are now getting back to normal. May we be reminded to always be grateful”, DE Villena said.
The theme for this year is Christmas Carnival, and it will feature designs and decorations created by various National Government and Civic Organizations. Said activity is part of the 6th Karibhungan sa Pasko: A program of the Provincial Government of Northern Samar aimed at promoting the spirit of giving and sharing while also boosting local tourism.
