PNP warns against spread of counterfeit money this Christmas season

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has warned the public about the possibility of counterfeit money spreading during this Christmas season.

"PNP reminds [the public] to be cautious when shopping in markets and malls, especially during times like these when we have balikbayans returning home with remittances," said PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo in a television interview

Fajardo urged balikbayans to only exchange money at authorized money changers to avoid becoming victims of fraud.

Additionally, the official encouraged the public to plan ahead and purchase gifts to avoid the holiday shopping rush and crowded malls and stores.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has previously advised the public to carefully examine the money being paid to determine whether it is genuine or counterfeit.
