The restoration of a canal and the development of a mangrove area in Sta. Sofia, Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte, in order to address the accessibility concerns of residents and the fishing community, is making rapid progress, with a physical accomplishment of 87.46%.

The project plan, which includes waterway alignment, covers a total length of 1.3 kilometers and a width of 23 meters. This Php 3.69 million project will provide residents with direct access from the open sea to the residential area of Padre Burgos town.

“This project, once completed, will benefit the fishing communities, the private sector, and the local government since it will create income-generating opportunities, thereby achieving economic growth in the province,” District Engineer Manolo Rojas said.

DE Rojas went on to say that the completion of this project will primarily benefit the economic well-being of marginal fishermen while also promoting the area as an eco-tourism destination. (Source: DPWH/SLDEO/FMMT)
