Southern Leyte receives P3.4 million in livelihood assistance

TACLOBAN CITY –  During the Sectoral Dialogue held last November 16, 2022, at the Municipal Gymnasium of Bontoc, Southern Leyte, the Department of Labor and Employment awarded a total of P3,420,000.00 in livelihood assistance to three local government units in Southern Leyte.

The grants will benefit 114 workers who will soon start their own businesses through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).

Congresswoman Luz V. Mercado of the 1st District of Southern Leyte, Engr. Lusanto M. Francisco of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Mr. Danilo A. Laguitan, DILG Provincial Director, and LTC Ernesto de la Rosa, Commanding Officer of the 14IB, were present to grace the sectoral dialogue, where various agencies presented important topics.

The Poverty Reduction, Livelihood, and Employment Cluster (PRLEC)-identified barangays of Bontoc, namely Pamigsian, Hilaan, and Olisihan, are among the recipients of the assistance. The aforementioned barangays received a total of P840,000.00 in livelihood funds to benefit 28 beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the municipalities of Sogod and Padre Burgos received grants of P690,000.00 and P1,890,000.00, respectively, for the implementation of 86 workers' individual business ventures, which included parents of child laborers and family members of parolees and probationers.

Ms. Eden Ligaya Y. Golong, DOLE Southern Leyte Field Office Head, thanked its partners in her message for their active support to the labor department's programs, particularly livelihood and employment.

"We are grateful to our dear partners in local government units and other government entities for joining us in breaking the cycle of poverty by providing livelihood to our needy workers," Golong said.

Bontoc Mayor Noel E. Alinsub and Padre Burgos Mayor Hermenigildo Culpa also attended the one-day event.

The sectoral dialogue was held in collaboration with the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority, NICA, the 14th Infantry Brigade, and the LGU-Bontoc. (Source: DOLE-8)
