The Department of Health (DOH) launched the #KaBayanihan Youth Challenge for COVID-19 on Wednesday, November 30, to encourage youth participation in the government's COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
To engage youth groups, UNICEF Philippines, the National Youth Commission (NYC), and the Youth Peer Education Network (PEER) collaborated to launch the program.
DOH Officer-in-Charge USec. Maria Rosario Vergeiresaid that the pandemic has reinforced the importance of collective action and active participation, particularly in their efforts to transition to the new normal and achieve Universal Health Care.
"The consequences of what we do now will be felt not only by us but by future generations as well. As a result, there are no better people to engage than those who will be affected by today's collective action," she added.
From December 5 to 7, youth organizations will kick off activities to support the DOH's Bakunahang Bayan, which aims to increase booster uptake and vaccination coverage among people aged 5 to 11.
Vergeire thanked all youth volunteers who participated in the government's program. She is also confident that the program will "successfully ensure better health outcomes for all."
