Philippine gov't reiterates commitment to ASEAN digital transformation

The Philippines is committed to working with ASEAN to build an inclusive, productive, secure, and sustainable digital society.

The Philippine government reaffirmed its commitment to working with its ASEAN neighbors to build an inclusive, productive, secure, and sustainable digital society at the recently concluded 57th meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN-COCI) in Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam.

The conference, titled "Digital Transformation: Accessible Opportunities for All," was held last November 21-26 and brought together ASEAN member states' delegations in charge of culture and information, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the International Federation of Arts Councils and Cultural Agencies (IFACCA).

Director-General Undersecretary Ramon Lee Cualoping III of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) led the Philippine delegation, who advocated for ASEAN to begin preparing for a digital society that is more inclusive in the region.

The PIA chief reaffirmed the Philippines' dedication to guaranteeing and maintaining digital inclusivity and access to information, combating disinformation, and making the most of digital resources to encourage public active participation and engagement in nation-building.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1976, the Philippines and Vietnam have collaborated in tourism, education, agriculture, aquaculture trade, and defense.

The ASEAN-COCI is in charge of developing, implementing, and reviewing culture and information projects for funding through the ASEAN Cultural Fund (ACF) and other non-governmental funds.

Representatives from the culture and information sectors of the ten ASEAN member countries attended the meeting, which the government of Vietnam hosted.
