The Provincial Government of Samar inaugurated the Spark Samar Tourism Information and Pasalubong Center in Barangay San Juan, Sta. Rita, Samar, today, December 1, 2022.
Sen. Imee Marcos attended the event, together with Santa Rita Mayor Jade Kei Tiu, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Director Grace Subong, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Samar Provincial Director Engr. Meilou Macabare, and Department of Education Samar Schools Division Superintendent Carmela Tamayo.
In 2021, then-Samar 2nd District Representative Sharee Ann Tan appropriated P30 million for the access road and building construction as part of the Spark San Juanico Project.
The access road will be linked to the soon-to-be-built viewing deck, which will offer a spectacular view of the San Juanico Bridge Lights and Sounds Show.
In contrast, the Spark Samar Tourism Information and Pasalubong Center will house Samar's various products. This will include Lara-Banig products as well as provincial delicacies made by members of the Association of Samar Producers (ASAP).
The DTI will collaborate with the Pasalubong Center, which will carry the One Town One Product (OTOP) program. Through OTOP, towns promote and sell their "pride-of-place" products at the center with the help of DTI and the province.
The center is the newest gateway to Samar Tourism, providing information on the province's tourist sites, delectable food, and local products. (Source: Samar-PIO)
