TACLOBAN CITY – The city has once again been recognized for its outstanding local governance practices, receiving the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award for the fifth time.
The award, given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), was received on behalf of Mayor Alfred Romualdez by City Administrator Attorney Anacleto Rei 'Jojo' A. Lacanilao III at a ceremony held at The Manila Hotel Fiesta Pavilion on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
The SGLG is a prestigious award that recognizes local government units (LGUs) that demonstrate excellence in governance, particularly in financial management, disaster preparedness, social protection, and peace and order.
To qualify for the award, LGUs must meet a set of rigorous criteria set by the DILG. Tacloban City met these criteria for the fifth time, having previously received the award in 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
Tacloban City is one of 15 LGUs from Region 8 to receive the SGLG award in 2022. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the city's officials and employees, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to serving their constituents' needs and improving their community's lives.
The SGLG award is a valuable recognition for Tacloban City and its citizens, highlighting its efforts to achieve sustainable development and good governance. It inspires other LGUs to strive for excellence in their governance practices and to work towards creating a better future for their communities.
