Two tropical cyclones may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this month, according to PAGASA. |
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Thursday, December 1, that the country should brace for two tropical cyclones that might enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this month.
Once the cyclones enter PAR, they will be named "Rosal" and "Samuel."
PAGASA said that their forecast was based on the Tropical Cyclone Climatological Track, which depicts the paths of cyclones over the past 80 years.
Frequent cyclone tracks during December are referred to as "average tracks."
When a tropical cyclone's entry point is low or begins east of Mindanao in PAR, it usually moves west or west-northwest. Its path often hits northeastern Mindanao and typically affects CARAGA, Northern Mindanao, large parts of the Visayas, and even MIMAROPA.
The cyclone is more likely to make landfall in the rest of Luzon, particularly the Bicol Region, when its entry point is slightly higher in the PAR, such as the eastern part of the Visayas or the Bicol Region.
These cyclones, however, have a slight tendency to curve closer to Northern Luzon while also moving away toward the north Philippine Sea.
Every year, an average of 20 cyclones enter or come within PAR. These cyclones are responsible for the destruction of homes and crops and hundreds to thousands of deaths.
