TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Information and Technology (DICT) announced that as of 28 January 2023, 11:59 PM, a total of 26,637,515 SIM cards have been registered by Philippine telecommunication entities (PTEs) in compliance with Republic Act No. 11934 or the SIM Registration Act (SRA).
The law requires all new subscribers to register their SIM cards before activation and all existing subscribers to register their SIM cards to avoid deactivation.
Smart Communications Inc., Globe Telecom Inc., and DITO Telecommunity Corp. reported the following percentage of registered SIMs as a percentage of total subscribers:
- Smart Communications: 13,632,034 registered or 20.05% of 67,995,734 subscribers
- Globe Telecom: 10,883,887 registered or 12.39% of 87,873,936 subscribers
- DITO Telecommunity: 2,121,594 registered or 16.19% of 13,108,103 subscribers
DICT Undersecretary Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo stated that the PTEs continuously work to improve the SIM registration process to ensure a smooth experience for subscribers.
To protect their personal information, the DICT reminds subscribers to be cautious and register only through official links provided by PTEs. The Data Privacy Act mandates that PTEs secure subscribers' data with mandatory encryption.
