TACLOBAN CITY — A launching ceremony was held on January 26, 2023, at Plaza Rizal in Tacloban City to unveil a new fleet of modernized public transportation vehicles.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 8 launched 5 modernized PUJ (Public Utility Jeep) units of Mitsubishi, operated by Tacloban V&G Calanipawan Drivers and Operators Transport Cooperative (TAVAGCADOTCO), in compliance with the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).
The event was led by the Regional Director of LTFRB Region 8, Gualberto N. Gualberto, and the Chief Transportation Development Officer, Engr. Christopher S. Capistrano, along with the PUVMP Region 8 Team.
Said units are equipped with air conditioning, providing a more comfortable travel experience for commuters in V&G Tacloban.
Engr. Capistrano said that gone are the days of riding in non-airconditioned public transport in the area. He also expressed his gratitude to the members of TAVAGCADOTCO for joining the PUV Modernization Program and for their efforts in providing a safe and comfortable transport system in the City.
The Provisional Authority for the modernized PUJ units was awarded by LTFRB Regional Director Gualberto N. Gualberto and accepted by the Chairman of TAVAGCADOTCO, Mr. Wilson B. Bayang. Mr. Bayang thanked LTFRB and the Land Bank of the Philippines for the support and trust given to their Cooperative.
The PUV Modernization Program aims to create a restructured, modern, well-managed, and environmentally sustainable transport sector in which public transport drivers and operators have stable, sufficient, and dignified livelihoods. —iTacloban (Source: LTFRB-8)
