The Department of Public Works and Highways Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DPWH-SLDEO) has recently completed a road concreting project in Libhu village in Maasin City, Southern Leyte. The project, which began on April 6, 2022, is expected to enhance the movement of people, goods, and services in the area and improve the conditions of local roads.
The Php 15 million project, funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act through the Sustainable Infrastructure Project Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG), is a two-lane concrete road with a length of at least 1.582 lane kilometers.
The project's work program added 2.5 meters to both sides of the road, for a total width of five meters and a thickness of approximately 0.20 meters.
The road also leads to Libhu Dumpsite, a garbage dump/facility established to accommodate all wastes in Maasin in accordance with its waste management policy. Other civil works on site include the construction of 1.5 meters gravel shoulder, the installation of a CHB line canal, and slope protection works.
According to DE Rojas, the District Engineer of Southern Leyte, Barangay Libhu is approximately 11.7 kilometers away from Tunga-Tunga village, Maasin City’s commercial hub center.
With the completion of this project, it is expected to improve the conditions of local roads and connect these outlying areas to the city’s commercial hub to enhance local and regional productivity easing out bottlenecks in agriculture, trade, and tourism. (Source: DPWH-8)
