Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary Conrado M. Estrella III led the inauguration of the Tulay ng Pangulo para sa Kaunlarang Pang-agraryo (TPKP) Bridge Project in Brgy. Sta. Rosa, Balangiga, Eastern Samar on Friday, January 27, 2023.
The P9.1 million bridge, which measures 28 linear meters, was completed on May 21, 2021, and is now officially turned over to the local government.
The project was a collaboration between the Philippine government and France through the French Export Credit Facility and was implemented by the DPWH-ESEO under the Unified Project Mgt. Cluster, funded by the French government. The bridge connects Brgy. Cag-ulango, Gimaayuhan, and Bangon to Agrarian Reform Communities are expected to help farmers in their livelihood by making it easier for them to bring their products to the market.
According to Kagawad Tessie Elacion of Brgy. Cag-ulango, many residents have fallen from the previous wooden bridge. With the new bridge in place, residents no longer have to worry about falling. She expressed gratitude to DAR and other government agencies for making the project a reality.
Mayor Dana Flynch de Lira also expressed her heartfelt thanks to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the project, which she believes will help their municipality overcome poverty and achieve prosperity.
During the inauguration of the TPKP Bridge, Secretary Estrella also led the distribution of land titles to 200 farmers and the ceremonial turnover of P100 million for the town of Oras. In addition, farm machineries and equipment were also distributed to various organizations of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries.
The event was attended by USec. Hazel Celeste, RD Robert Anthony Yu, House Deputy Majority Leader Cong. Jude Acidre of Tingog Partylist, Vice Gov. Maria Caridad Goteesan as a representative of Gov. Ben Evardone, Ex-Vice Gov. Sheen Gonzales as a representative of House Minority Floor Leader Cong. Marcelino Libanan of 4Ps Partylist, Mayor Roy Ador of Oras, and other officials of the DAR.
