EASTERN VISAYAS – The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VIII has recently awarded 300,000 pesos Seed Capital Fund (SCF) to each of the seven Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) in the municipalities of Quinapondan and General MacArthur, Eastern Samar.
Representatives from various government agencies and partner organizations attended the awarding ceremony on January 30, 2023.
The Seed Capital Fund is a provision that aims to provide SLPAs in designated barangays with the resources they need to establish a community-based livelihood that meets the needs of the people in their communities. The assistance was provided in accordance with Executive Order No. 70, which aims to provide livelihood assistance to Former Rebels (FRs) and Conflict Vulnerable Areas (CVAs).
The seven SLPAs that received the funding are from the barangays of Tugop, Tandang Sora, Quezon, and Roxas of General MacArthur, and Cantenio, Anislag, and San Isidro of Quinapondan. Their livelihood projects include rice retailing, hog fattening, and copra trading.
Through various capacity-building sessions, the beneficiaries were equipped with the skills needed to sustain their projects.
Representatives from DSWD-SLP and partner agencies, the 63rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Ormoc City Community Cooperative Incorporation (OCCCI), the LGUs of Quinapondan and General Macarthur, as well as their Municipal Agriculture and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices, were present during the ceremonial awarding ceremony.
