TACLOBAN CITY – Three centenarians in the province of Leyte have been awarded Php 100,000 cash grants and other incentives under the Centenarian Program.
Lola Consuelo and Lolo Sosimo from Ormoc, Leyte, received their grants on February 27, 2023, while Lola Anastacia from Babatngon, Leyte, received hers on March 2, 2023.
The cash grants were handed over by the DSWD Field Office VIII, together with congratulatory letters from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
In addition to cash grants, the agency presented the centenarians with gifts and privileges from their local government units (LGU). Lola Consuelo, Lolo Sosimo, and Lola Anastacia are just three of the 80 centenarians who will receive cash grants this year across the region.
The Centenarian Program aims to recognize and value any Filipino, whether within or outside the country, who has reached the age of 100 years old. As mandated by RA 10868, the program provides a Php 100,000 cash grant to centenarians as a tribute to their longevity.
The DSWD reminds future centenarians and their families to approach their LGUs or the nearest DSWD Sub-field Offices (SFOs) to inquire about the program and the necessary steps to avail of its benefits. —iTacloban
