TACLOBAN CITY – The Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO) and the Department of Education (DepEd) have teamed up to educate students in schools about the harmful effects of illegal drug use. The police have intensified their campaign against illegal drugs with the support of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the Buhay Ingatan, Droga Ayawan (BIDA) program.

In February 2023, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between TCPO and DepEd to conduct lectures in schools to educate students about the dangers of illegal drug use. The campaign aims to prevent the youth from falling into the trap of illegal drug use.

During the first quarter of 2023, the TCPO made 52 arrests, with 50 made through buy-bust operations and two served warrants of arrest. The police confiscated illegal drugs with a street value of P1.6 million from their operations from January to March 2023.

TCPO has been conducting various anti-drug campaigns to prevent the proliferation of illegal drugs in Tacloban City. Police Colonel Michael P. Palermo emphasized the importance of collaboration between TCPO and DepEd in addressing the issue of illegal drug use among the youth.

The MOA signed by the TCPO and DepEd aims to create a drug-free school environment and promote a healthy lifestyle among students.

Through the partnership between the two agencies, they hope to raise awareness and promote education on drug abuse to prevent the youth from falling into the trap of illegal drug use and promote a healthier and safer community in Tacloban City. —iTacloban (Source: CIO)
