TACLOBAN CITY – The Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) is nearing completion of the retrofitting of the Tigbao Bridge, which began on February 20, 2023.
The project aims to enhance the overall structural strength of the bridge, a critical structure along Daang Maharlika National Road, to minimize road congestion and travel time.
The Tigbao Bridge is an essential structure in Tacloban City, allowing for effective traffic flow.
However, the constant weight of various vehicles passing through it caused gradual deterioration, necessitating the retrofitting project led by Project Engineer Engr. Charlie Tampil.
The Php 19,029,810.16 retrofitting project involves the installation of carbon fiber plates to reinforce the bridge's girders and redecking.
"Bridges have a lifespan of 20 years, and it allows a better travel experience for all vehicles passing through, such as our Daang Maharlika Road. Therefore our Office will see to it that this bridge will make it through its lifespan," said Engr. Charlie Tampil in a statement.
The retrofitting project will benefit the public by ensuring the Tigbao Bridge's longevity, improving traffic flow, and reducing travel time.
The completion of the project will enable the bridge to accommodate various vehicles passing through it, ensuring its structural integrity and allowing for better road safety. —iTacloban (Source: TCDEO)
