TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 8 (DA-8) marked the start of the Filipino Food Month this April with a one-day KADIWA Agri-Fair. Led by Regional Director Andrew Rodolfo T. Orais, the event aimed to promote local food products and support farmers and entrepreneurs.
Around 15 farmers' cooperatives and associations, entrepreneurs, and food processors from Tacloban City and nearby municipalities showcased and sold their fresh produce and food delicacies at the event.
The Agri-Fair provided a platform for local farmers to market their products and promote their businesses.
In addition to the KADIWA Agri-Fair, the Agricultural Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) and Robinsons North Tacloban will mobilize another event called KADIWA: Locally Sourced on the third week of April. This event will feature fresh produce and processed products from local farmers and entrepreneurs.
This year's Filipino Food Month theme is "Pagkaing Sariling Atin, Mahalin at Pagyamanin," which aims to promote and support local food products and entrepreneurs. It also highlights the significance of preserving and promoting traditional Filipino cuisine to the world.
The Filipino Food Month celebration is based on Presidential Proclamation No. 469, signed in 2018, which declares April of every year as the "Filipino Food Month" or "Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino."
The month-long celebration aims to raise awareness about the country's rich culinary heritage and promote local food products in the market. —iTacloban (Source: DA-8)
