TACLOBAN CITY – In a coordination and consultation meeting held yesterday, April 13, at the Hotel Consuelo in Tacloban City, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 8 (DA-RFO 8) led discussions with the members of the Regional Advisory Committee on Animal Disease Control and Emergency (RAC-ADCE).
The meeting was attended by representatives from various agencies, including the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), Animal Veterinary Quarantine Service, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Coast Guard, provincial veterinary offices, livestock raisers, and technical personnel/focal persons from the Livestock Program, Regulatory Division, and Integrated Laboratory Division of the regional office.
RTD for Research and Regulations, Dr. Elvira C. Torres, and RAC-ADCE Chairperson, Dr. Amando P. Apoderado, led the opening program. In her message, RTD Torres commended the group for their hard work and efforts in controlling and managing animal diseases affecting the region and the whole country.
The meeting tackled several important topics, including the committee's revival, its members' composition, status, and updates on African Swine Fever and Avian Influenza and other support services related to animal health programs. With the outbreak of animal diseases threatening the country, the discussions held in this meeting will be crucial in ensuring the safety and security of livestock and animal products in the region.
The DA-RFO 8 and its partner agencies will continue to work closely with RAC-ADCE to implement effective strategies and measures to prevent and control the spread of animal diseases. —iTacloban (Source: DA-8)
