The Department of Education (DepEd) has recently launched a new initiative to support the safety and well-being of Filipino students. The Learners Telesafe Contact Center Helpline is an exclusive platform that provides assistance and support to students who are experiencing abuse or any form of danger.
The initiative is much needed, as the safety and well-being of Filipino students have become a major concern.
According to the 2015 National Baseline Survey on Violence Against Children in the Philippines, there is a high prevalence of physical, psychological, sexual, and online violence committed against Filipino children. The survey found that 80% of Filipino children have experienced some form of violence at home, in school, in their community, and online.

The helpline's primary goal is to ensure that students have a safe and secure learning environment, which is essential for their holistic development. Through this initiative, the DepEd aims to strengthen the protection of students' rights and prevent any potential harm.

This ensures that students have multiple options to reach out for help, depending on their comfort level and the situation's urgency. Students who prefer to write down their concerns can email weprotectlearners@deped.gov.ph. Meanwhile, the Facebook page https://facebook.com/deped.lrpo/ is an option for those who feel more comfortable communicating through social media.
