TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas (DOH-8) has urged the public to celebrate Holy Week traditions safely and healthily amid the less stringent COVID-19 public safety protocols.
With the upcoming observance of Holy Week, the public is expected to participate in various activities such as mass gatherings, family reunions, and international or inter-regional travel, which may increase the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
DOH-8 also emphasized the potential for various infectious and communicable diseases to spread during local traditions such as church masses, processions, senakulo, palaspas, Easter vigils, and other local customs.

To ensure the public's safety, DOH-8 has provided several recommendations, such as preparing early for the season to avoid stress, wearing face masks, regularly washing or sanitizing hands, practicing safe physical distancing, ensuring good ventilation during church masses, refraining from touching and kissing figures and statues, observing necessary precautions and safety measures, drinking plenty of water to prevent dehydration, and avoiding prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
DOH-8 emphasized that the public's cooperation and adherence to health protocols are crucial in preventing the spread of diseases and promoting overall public health.
The department also encourages the public to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms of illness or if they have been exposed to anyone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19. —iTacloban (Source: DOH-8)
