TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Northern Samar First District Engineering Office (NSFDEO) has completed the construction of a hanging bridge that will improve the safety and accessibility of travel for residents of Brgy. Galutan and Doña Pulqueria in Catarman, Northern Samar.
The new hanging bridge, which spans 175 meters across the Catarman River, will provide a safer and shorter route for students going to Galutan National High School and ease of travel for locals to remote areas. The bridge will also eliminate the danger of crossing the river, particularly during the rainy season.
The project was implemented in two phases. Phase I involved the construction of the hanging bridge's portals, stairs with railings, grouted riprap, and revetment, which amounted to Php 1.97 million. Phase II, which cost Php 4.86 million, included the installation of the main cable, suspender, wood planks, cyclone wire, stainless steel railings, and masonry painting for existing columns.
The construction of the hanging bridge will greatly improve the daily lives of the residents in the area, providing them with a safer and more accessible route to travel to school or work. It will also contribute to the development of the community, as it will promote tourism and the growth of local businesses.
Residents of Brgy. Galutan and Doña Pulqueria have expressed their gratitude for the completion of the hanging bridge. Students, in particular, will benefit from the bridge, providing them with a safer and shorter route to Galutan National High School. —iTacloban
