TACLOBAN CITY – The city was abuzz as the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet formally opened at the Grandstand.
The event drew more than 7,000 delegates from various cities and municipalities in the region, including Baybay City, Biliran, Borongan City, Calbayog City, Catbalogan City, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Maasin City, Northern Samar, Ormoc City, Samar, So. Leyte, and Tacloban City.
During the event, DepEd Regional Director Evelyn R. Fetalvero encouraged the athletes to uphold sportsmanship and unity, even competing against each other. She also urged them to aim for gold medals, which would be their ticket to the Palarong Pambansa, to be held in Marikina City.
Meanwhile, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez, also the Chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), stressed the importance of values, discipline, sportsmanship, unity, and nationalism in sports competitions. He thanked everyone who helped make the event successful and expressed his hopes that the athletes would excel in their respective events.
Leyte Governor Jericho “Icot” L. Petilla also expressed his support for the athletes and encouraged them to aim high in their pursuit of excellence.
The event also saw Ormoc City being chosen to host the 2024 EVRAA Meet, with Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez and Leyte 4th District Representative Richard Gomez assuming responsibility for its organization.
As the event unfolded, everyone was reminded that the true winners of the EVRAA Meet embody the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and unity, both on and off the playing field. —iTacloban (Source: CIO)
