TACLOBAN CITY –The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Eastern Visayas (LTFRB-8) has recently issued a memorandum circular reminding drivers of their responsibilities and the consequences of inappropriate behavior towards passengers in line with the "Bawal Bastos Law."

Veronica Reposar, Transportation Development Officer II of the LTFRB Regional Office-8, said that the "Bawal Bastos Law" has been incorporated into their driver's academy to remind drivers of their obligations under the law.

The new memorandum circular serves as a reminder to drivers of what is expected of them in their profession. The circular reiterates the "Bawal Bastos Law," which prohibits all forms of sexual harassment, such as catcalling, wolf-whistling, and other unwanted advances, both in public and online.

The LTFRB has also emphasized that the penalties imposed on drivers who violate the "Bawal Bastos Law" are severe, with fines of up to P500,000 and the revocation of their license. In addition, passengers who have experienced inappropriate behavior from drivers can file a complaint through the LTFRB's online portal or in person.

Reposar also reminded drivers to be courteous and respectful to passengers, particularly women, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Drivers are encouraged to treat all passengers with dignity and respect, regardless of their gender, age, or social status. —iTacloban (Source: Bombo Radyo)
