TACLOBAN CITY – In a bid to modernize the country's public transportation system, the government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) has been providing financial assistance to operators and drivers to replace their old, dilapidated jeepneys with new, safer, and more environment-friendly units.
The San Miguel Leyte Transport Service Inc. (SMLTSI) in San Miguel, Leyte, has become the latest beneficiary of the PUVMP. The company received three modernized PUV units, which were turned over in a ceremony held on April 26th at the San Miguel Municipal Hall. The event was attended by local officials, ISUZU representatives, and members of SMLTSI.
Engr. Christopher S. Capistrano, the Chief Transportation Development Officer, represented LTFRB Region 8 Regional Director Gualberto N. Gualberto at the ceremony and awarded the Certification of Compliance to the PUV Modernization Program (CPV) to certify the roadworthiness of the PUV units.
Mr. Prospero Q. Brazil, the President of SMLTSI, Ms. Pretzie P. Brazil, BOD of SMLTSI, and Mr. Ariel B. Abellar, the Secretary of SMLTSI, received the ceremonial turnover.
